What Happened Last Night on The Voice?

I don't watch reality shows except for those ones where there is music involved, and I am faithful only to the real good ones. The Voice has become one of my favorite shows because, unlike American Idol, the "judges" who are actually coaches, are really nice to those who perform in front of them. Overall, is a very positive, funny, and full of energy show. There is no room for prejudices since all the coaches have to listen to the singers without seeing them first.

I have seen the coaches scream in awe because they cannot believe that the talent before them is a 15 year old teenager, or a guy with an unbelievable hight-pitch voice who made them think it was a woman singing, or like last night, a young lady of Asian descent singing country music.

During the third season, I loved the way Christina Aguilera, Adam Levin, Blake, and CeeLo fought furiously to have the best talented performers in their teams. The way they recognized true talent was inspiring and... entertaining.

So, why am I asking what happened last night? Well, the show was amazing like always but, it seemed to me that many contestants were not fully aware of who is Shakira. When they were interviewed backstage, they all mentioned how huge Usher is (I am not saying he is not, because he is) but so is Shakira. The producers of the show even added "International renowned artist Shakira" when she was introduced!

I was truly disappointed to hear participants say things like: "I'll choose you Shakira because my wife will kill me if I don't."  Another participant who is now in Shakira's team by default because she was the only one who turned around to pick him, she was the only one who believed in his talent, did not seem very happy with her. Why? Do these people know the real meaning of being an "International Artist?"

I will probably never have an answer to my question but if you too are wondering about Shakira's career, here is a gist of it:

Discography:
1990–97: Music debut and Pies Descalzos
1998–2000: ¿Dónde Están los Ladrones? and MTV Unplugged
2001–04: Laundry Service and international success
2005–07: Fijación Oral Vol. 1 and Oral Fixation Vol. 2
2008–11: She Wolf and Sale el Sol
2012–present : Eighth studio album and The Voice

Philanthropy:
"In 1997, Shakira founded the Pies Descalzos Foundation. It is a Colombian charity with special schools for poor children all around Colombia. It was funded by Shakira and other international groups and individuals. The name of the foundation is taken from Shakira's third studio album called Pies Descalzos, released in 1995." - Source: Wikipedia.

Legacy:
"According to Sony, Shakira is the highest-selling Colombian artist of all time, having sold between 50 to 60 million albums. According to Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems, "Hips Don't Lie" was the most-played pop song in a single week in American radio history. It was played 9,637 times in one week. Shakira became the first artist in the history of the Billboard charts to earn the coveted number one spots on both the Top 40 Mainstream and Latin Chart in the same week doing so with "Hips Don't Lie". Her song "La Tortura" broke the record on the Billboard's Hot Latin Tracks chart, appearing at number-one more than any other single with a total of 25 non-consecutive weeks." - Source: Wikipedia.

Some of her awards in the U.S. are:
"Five MTV Video Music Awards, two Grammy Awards, eight Latin Grammy Awards, seven Billboard Music Awards, twenty-eight Billboard Latin Music Awards and has been Golden Globe-nominated. She also has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. - Source: Wikipedia.

  1. I agree! Shakira should be a great coach for her team and she certainly has the credibility and experience to compete with the other coaches. I was worried at first because she turned her chair around so often (excitement at being new to the show?), but she seems to be learning quickly. It’ll be fun to see how her team develops throughout the season.
